Cost accounting is where accounting meets management. It’s all about what things cost, whether that be a product, a service or a process. There are different ways of looking at cost, and many assumptions and perspectives. The study of Cost Accounting is focused on understanding which are the best approaches in a given situation. Cost accounting derives actionable information through analysis of financial and operational information.

Learning Objectives:

After completing this course, the student will

1. Appreciate the basic concepts of cost accounting.

2. Understand the various cost accounting choices

3. Know how to do a break-even analysis

4. Relate cost accounting principles to day-to-day accounting decisions.
